We sin, now what?

As Christians, we are strangers passing through a strange land. We are passing through the valley of Baca, a valley of tears. Our lives reflect the glory of God because the Holy Spirit is at work in us, transforming us to be like Jesus Christ. And where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom, not legalism and guilt -- 2 Corinthians 3:17,18.

We are in a life-long transforming process, we weren’t perfected the moment we were born again. Wish  we were, but we were not. We are included in the righteousness and holiness of Jesus Christ, that is our standing in Christ. But during the redemption process we sin, we fall short. Do we lose our position in Christ? NO!

When we sin, we are out of fellowship with our Lord, but we are still included in Christ. We are not thrown in and out of Christ like a used toy. We are not required to be among the top performers. We don’t have be among the 20%.

The 80% are going to enjoy heaven because of their faith in the Atoning Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Matter of fact, many of the 80% will make it heaven before the 20%. Most of  the 80% are not self-motivated, nor do they work at self-improvement, they are not self-righteous, instead, they stand in the righteousness of Jesus Christ -- 1 Corinthians 1:30. Therefore, they boast in the Lord.

The Holy Spirit was not sent into our lives to flee the moment we sin. If that were true He would be worn out by all the times He would have to come and go from our lives. He comes Once For All, to transform us. He is the One who is changing our lives from the inside out, so relax.

When you do sin, and we all do, God promises that when we CONFESS our sins, and continue to CONFESS our sins, He is just and will forgive us and PURIFY us from all unrighteousness – 1 John 1:8-10. Jesus Christ is always interceding for us, never against us Christian – 1 John 2:1-2.

Guilt trips are not from God. Guilt is a weapon of the evil one, and it’s a shame that he is able to use so many Christians to heap guilt trips on other Christians. I say it again: GUILT IS NEVER FROM GOD!!!!! Condemnation is a tool of the enemy used to bring a Christian into the bondage of a guilty conscience.

The Holy Spirit uses CONVICTION to turn a Christian from evil. Conviction shows you that you are wrong, that what you are doing is sin and does not please God. When the Holy Spirit convicts you, you will know you are wrong, but you will also know you can go to God for forgiveness. You will know that you need to confess your sins. You will not try to hide your sin because you know you are welcome to come to God for forgiveness and you will receive forgiveness.

On the other hand, guilt makes you hide from God. The enemy speaks to your mind telling you that you can't go to God for forgiveness. The enemy has used this lie on me numerous times: “You can’t expect God to forgive you again. You’ve done that too many times for God to forgive you again. You’re not repenting you’re just confessing, God won’t forgive you unless you repent! You keep doing the same thing over and over, God will not forgive you again.”

One time, when I was a very young Christian the enemy had me trapped with that lie, but Jesus spoke to my heart and set me free to always confess my sins. He said, “Son, how many times do I say you must forgive your brother when he sins against you?” And I said, audibly, “70 times 7 Lord.” He answered, “Well, if I expect that of you, can’t you expect that of Me. Don’t limit Me son.” I’m telling you a heavy weight lifted, I felt it. The lie of the evil one was broken once for all.

Christian don’t let guilt make you hide your sins from God, run to Him and confess and confess and confess, no matter how many times you have to, confess your sins to God. Don’t worry about repenting, just confess your sins and God will not only forgive you but He will also PURIFY you from all unrighteousness. I know for fact that He does.

There have been times when I confessed the same sin over and over, it seemed like every five minutes I was confessing that same sin. I was trapped and couldn’t get free. I’d cry out, “God, I must love this sin I keep doing it. I need you to PURIFY me of this sinful desire, free me from these sinful thoughts. God I need your forgiveness. Restore my soul Jesus, restore my mind, you are my shepherd. Thank you Lord for forgiving me, and I know you are Purifying me of this unrighteousness.”

There were times that the battle with sin went on and on, and the devil was right there bombarding my mind with his accusing lies: “You call yourself a Christian?” And I’d answer, “NO I don’t call myself a Christian, my faith in the Atoning Sacrifice of Jesus Christ calls me a Christian. Get away from me devil in the name of Jesus Christ.” Peace of mind would overwhelm me. NO GUILT ALLOWED IN MY LIFE!

He'd come back at me, “You’re a backslider! You love your sin. You’re not going to repent.” And I’d answer, “So what devil, Jesus Christ is always interceding for me. I’m welcome before the throne of grace to receive the mercy and grace I need to overcome this sin. Get away from me devil in the name of Jesus Christ.” Peace of mind would overwhelm me. NO GUILT ALLOWED IN MY LIFE!

Do I ever get totally free from that sin without repenting. Of course I do, God promises to forgive and purify me from that unrighteous when I confess my sins.  I trust Him for that work, and He is always faithful!

The Apostle John wrote: “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. BUT if anyone does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One” – 1 John 2:1,2. He also wrote: “If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word has not place in our live” – 1 John 1:10.

Christian, we will not reach a state of perfection in this life, but yet we are in a position of being holy while we are in the process of being perfected – Romans 5:9,10; Hebrews 10:9-13. And it’s all because we have accepted God’s Once For Atoning Sacrifice, Jesus Christ.

These things I am fully persuaded of:

Because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is ABLE TO SAVE COMPLETELY those who come to God through Him, BECAUSE HE ALWAYS LIVES TO INTERCEDE FOR THEM – Hebrews 7;25

God will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful – 1 Corinthians 1:8,9

It is God who makes us stand firm in Christ. He set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come in our lives -- 2 Corinthians 1:21,22

Therefore since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. . . Let us then approach the throne of grace with CONFIDENCE, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need – Hebrews 4:14-16.

That’s a promise! And it does not say we will receive mercy and find grace when we have it all together, it says in our time of need. When you are trapped in sin, that is a time of need for mercy and grace, so reach out in faith and receive it Christian.

And don’t let people tell you that you can’t take individual verses and make them mean what you want them to mean. I can, and I do, and I will. Every verse of Scripture is a statement of fact, and every promise is a promise for you to speak the “Yes” and the “Amen” to – 2 Corinthians 1:20.

For over thirty years I have been taking individual statements of fact from Scripture and made them work for me. How? “God you promise, and I state the promise, and then I thank God for His faithfulness to His promises.” For over thirty years I have experienced God’s faithfulness to His promises: “I say to you, God’s Word works, and it’s up to you to make it work for you.”

I don’t listen to people who don’t know what they are talking about, especially when it comes to what the Word of God is all about: A New Life in Christ! A full life, an abundant life!
