The Books

After the final rebellion, the White Throne Judgment takes place.

The dead, great and small stand before the great white throne, and books are open. Another book will be opened, which is the book of life. The sea gives up its dead, Hades gives up the dead that are there and each person is judged according to what he/she has done – Revelation 20:11-15.

If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he/she is thrown into the lake of fire – Revelation 20:15.  All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast – all those whose names were not written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world will worship the antichrist – Revelation 13:8.

The books:

So we see that there is the book of life, and there is the book of life belonging to the Lamb. They are two different books.  What’s the difference?

The book of life:

At birth every person’s name is recorded in the book of life and it stays there until the moment a person chooses to reject the truth of Jesus Christ. At some point in time, the person will make the decision to pursue the ways of the world, and say “No” to the message of Jesus Christ for the last time.  How many times he/she said “No,” who knows? But at some point God knows the person means the final “No thank you, I don’t need Jesus.”  At that point the person’s name is erased from the book of life.  His/her fate is sealed forever.

The Lambs book of life:

Whenever a person accepts the truth of Jesus Christ his/her name is recorded in the Lamb’s book of life forever.  Also, our name remains written in the book of life.  We didn’t reject Jesus Christ. Most likely, each of us said “No” a number of times; thankfully God knew our hearts were not closed.  He knew we would eventually say “Yes” to Jesus.  He made sure we kept hearing the message of Jesus Christ.  Finally, each of us said “Yes” to Jesus, so we will not be before the white throne.  We accepted God’s sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins, ALL our sins, so at the time of the Rapture we go before the Judgment seat of Christ to receive rewards for what we did in His service, or loose rewards.

The book of works:

Another book was opened for each of us at the beginning of our lives, it is the book of works. Every thing we did, good and bad was recorded, especially the times we mistreated the people of God, Christian or Jew.

What are your chances of getting into heaven if you end up before the white throne?

At the white throne judgment seat, a person who stands before the One sitting on the throne will know his/her fate is already sealed.  God knows that if you are before that throne, your name is not written in the book of life.

What happens next?  Your book of works is opened and the One sitting on the white throne chooses the best you’ve ever done. Those things you thought would give you a chance to get into heaven.  He holds up your best self-efforts to compare them with the Sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ. At that instant, you realize your best efforts are no better than filthy rags when compared to the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  In agony, you will know God’s judgment is just.  You had many opportunities to accept Jesus Christ but you refused every time.  You are then pitched into fiery lake of fire, the place of – NEVER ENDING torment. Not smart!

God’s Wisdom:

God’s Word warns: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent

I will frustrate.” For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing; they perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved – 1 Corinthians 1:18;  2 Thessalonians 2:10. But to us who are being saved, the message of the cross of Jesus Christ is the power of God to save us from the lake of eternal torment.

God is just; He demonstrated His justice:

There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood.  He did this to demonstrate His justice, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished – He did it to demonstrate His justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus – Romans 3:22-26.

  • Justified: declared not guilty because Jesus took our guilt upon Himself
  • Redemption: restored to original state of innocence before God
  • Atonement: the price required was paid for us – the blood of Jesus Christ
  • Forbearance: mercy, they didn’t receive what they deserved

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” – Acts 4:10

  • Salvation: saved from destruction. Picture this: you are standing in line waiting to board your flight out, but inside you sense a warning, “Don’t get on that plane, it’s going to crash on take off.”  You decide to heed that inner warning; you go and reschedule your flight. That plane you didn’t get on crashes on take off and everyone onboard is killed.  You were saved from that destruction; that is a description of the act of salvation. God wants to save you from eternal destruction and the trouble coming upon the earth. Are you going to listen?
An invitation: If you haven’t accepted God’s free gift yet, but you would like to simply pray this prayer:  “Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God and the only way to God.  I admit that I’m a sinner, please forgive my sins and come into my life; I want to be born again.  Please show me how real you are, also baptize me with your Holy Spirit.  Thank you for accepting me.”

If you’re a skeptic: “God, if this is true, please help me understand so that I can accept the gift of New Birth you purchased for me.
