Sure Investments

You and I know that sure investments are those that are certain to return your investment money (ROI) and provide a return on your investment (ROI). You want to make money with your money, right? That's smart! This is a how to article.

Number one: if you are a smart investor, you want to invest in your eternal future. It’s one thing to be financially secure in this life, but that is only temporary. You don’t want to be a pauper in heaven, that is forever.

Let’s open the Bible (Scripture) and find out how to make sure and profitable investments -- 1 Timothy 6:17-19:

Timothy was a young man who helped the Apostle Paul establish church groups. Paul gave Timothy instruction on how to do that. He told Timonty “Command those who are rich in this present world 1) not to be arrogant, 2) nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, 3) but to put their hope in God, WHO RICHLY PROVIDES US WITH EVERYTHING FOR OUR ENJOYMENT.”

In Paul’s instruction to Timothy we see that God is the One who makes it possible for people to gain wealth. We also see that there is nothing wrong with being wealthy. Matter of fact, wealthy people should enjoy their wealth. But they are not to be arrogant, nor put their hope (trust) in their wealth because we all know wealth can disappear quickly if not handled right.

Paul also instructed Timothy, “Command them to do good (with their wealth), to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” That’s key to making great investments for your future in heaven. But good deeds will not get you into heaven! I’ll show you how to get to heaven in a minute.

Paul says, “In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” In other words, don’t be so near sighted that you can’t see the sure investments that store up treasure in heaven. You don’t want to be a pauper in heaven; heaven is forever. I realize we can’t wrap our minds around the concept of forever, but forever never ends.

Now, how does a person get to heaven? By accepting God’s atoning sacrifice. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He did die on the cross for the forgiveness of sins of mankind. But every individual must come to the point in time when he or she accepts the fact that they are sinners and need God to forgive his or her sins.

And then that person needs to accept the fact that Jesus Christ is God’s atoning sacrifice for the forgiveness of their sins. The person needs to ask Jesus Christ to cleanse him or her of their sins and ask Him to come into their life. At that point the person is “born again.”

At that instant God lavishes His love and grace upon that newly born again person and welcomes him or her into His eternal family (1 John 3:1; Ephesians 1:7-8). Because when you accept God's atoning sacrifice, you will be in heaven, plus, things will be changed for you here in this life. Absolutely, you will enjoy the changes that takes place in you, and for you.

You can pray a prayer like this one: Jesus Christ I believe you are the Son of God and that you died on the cross for the forgiveness of my sins, please forgive my sins. Please come into my life, I want to be born again. Jesus, show me how real you are. Also baptize me with the Holy Spirit. Thank you.

Here is a second how to for making sure investments for your future, and for the here and now -- (2 Corinthians 9:6-11):

This is the Bible (God) speaking, “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should give what he or she has decided in their heart to give, NOT RELUCTANTLY OR UNDER COMPULSION, FOR GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that IN ALL THINGS AT ALL TIMES, HAVING ALL THAT YOU NEED, YOU WILL ABOUND IN EVERY GOOD WORK.”

So you see, being a cheerful giver is the surest way to make sure investments, it guarantees that you will not only get your money back (ROI) but also experience great increase (ROI). God’s principle of investing is simple: believe, give and receive.

God promises, “Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed (money) and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness (right standing with God).” (see Romans 3:21-26)

Listen to this promise and get happy: “You will be made rich in EVERY WAY SO THAT YOU CAN BE GENEROUS ON EVERY OCCASION, and your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

There you have them: God’s principles for making sure investments:

  • Don’t be arrogant about your wealth
  • Don’t put your trust in your wealth
  • Enjoy your wealth and be willing to share
  • Be cheerful givers and God will make you rich in every way so that you can continue to be generous on every occassion.

The Bible does not say, “Sell all that you have and give it ALL to the poor.” Jesus told the rich man, “Sell all that you have and give to the poor and come follow me.” Jesus would have used the man’s wealth to support his ministry.

According to what we’ve just seen in the Scripture statements above, if that rich man had done what Jesus told him to do He would have ended up a lot wealthier. Instead eight women followed Him and supported the ministry of Jesus Christ (Luke 8:1-3). And of course they were made rich in every way so that they could continue to be generous on every occasion, and their generosity resulted in thanksgiving to God.

That was a long time ago, but I’m thanking God for their generosity in supporting the ministry of Jesus Christ. I Am so thankful for the Once For All Atoning Sacrifice of Jesus Christ! Those eight women helped make that possible.

In conclusion, if you are wealthy, enjoy your wealth; don't let people cause you trouble about you being wealthy. Scripture says the blessings of the Lord makes a person rich and He adds no trouble to it (Proverbs 10:22). So don’t let people make you feel guilty about being wealthy. But, in order to secure your future, be generous givers and store up treasure in heaven.

On the other hand, if you're not wealthy but want to be, go for it! (2 Corinthians 8:9; Ephesians 3:20-21). Be a generous giver! Take God at his Word and prosper in every way, so that you can be generous on every occasion.

And remember this instruction the Apostle gave to Timothy: "Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge" -- 1 Timothy 6:20-21.

Personally, when I see it in the word I stake my claim on it and I believe it and receive it. It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken." With the same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak what we believe. We name it and claim it, proclaim it and receive it. To me, the Bible is full of stand alone statements of fact not Bible verses.

An invitation: If you haven’t accepted God’s free gift yet, but you would like to, simply pray this prayer.

“Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God and that you died on the cross as the sacrifice for my sins; you are the only way to God. I admit that I’m a sinner, please forgive my sins and come into my life, I want to be born again. Please show me how real you are; also baptize me with your Holy Spirit. Thank you for accepting me.”

If you’re still a skeptic, you find it hard to accept the truth of Jesus Christ, you can pray a prayer like this one: “God, if this is true please help me understand so that I can accept the gift of eternal life you purchased for me.” Thank you.
