Study Bible Prophecy

The topic of this exhortation is: Why a believer needs to study Bible Prophecy and the benefits of doing that.

There are several reasons why every Christian should study Bible Prophecy, and the first reason is that Jesus Christ expects us to.  Jesus Christ declares, “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches” (Revelation 22:16).

Jesus Christ sent His angel to give His Revelation to the churches, and that means the churches today too.  The Revelation is a blessing for the churches! The Revelation of Jesus Christ is to inform the churches of what must soon take place.

“The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His

servants what must soon take place.  He made it known by sending

His angel to His servant John, who testifies to everything he saw –

that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed

is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are

are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because

the time is near” (Revelation 1:1-3).

According to that statement, Jesus promises that any church that READS the words of this prophecy to its members, and those who hear it READ and then take it to heart, are blessed. They will know what must soon take place and be ready.

A second reason why we should study Bible Prophecy is because it makes up a large portion of the Bible. God must have wanted His people to study Bible Prophecy because He put so much of it in the Bible.  John Walvoord, dean of prophecy at Dallas Theological Seminary, teaches that half of the 1000 Bible prophecies have been fulfilled.  That fact assures us that the prophecies waiting to be fulfilled, will be fulfilled.  There is no question that Bible prophecy has everything to do with our future.

Another reason for studying Bible Prophecy is that it makes it possible for us to know and understand God’s plan for mankind. God has a plan that He is working out, and each of us are included in His plan (Ephesians 1:11).

Also, as you study Bible Prophecy you will realize that prophecy needs to be taken literally.  In other words, because prophecies have already been fulfilled, then those that are waiting to be fulfilled, will be fulfilled. For example, Jesus Christ fulfilled over 100 specific prophecies that pointed to His first coming, exactly as stated.  So we can be certain that the over 300 prophecies pointing out His Second Coming will be fulfilled exactly as stated.

To put it simply: Literal interpretation means you let the Scripture speak for itself. Keep in mind that if a statement of Scripture is a type or shadow, it will say so.  There is no reason to turn Biblical statements into allegories.  Allegorical interpretation means you make them say things they don’t literally say.

Another reason for studying Bible Prophecy is the fact that you will become more fully convinced that God exists, and that He is in control.  Like I said earlier, He has a plan that He is working out. It began before creation, has continued down through history, and will lead to fulfillment of all prophecy and eternal joy for His people, but eternal torment for those who reject the Atoning Sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

As you study prophecy, you will understand history past, along with being able to understand current events, plus what’s going to happen in the near future.  You will learn about three groups of people involved in God’s plan.  As a result, you will be longing for the soon return of Jesus Christ to gather His people to Himself, “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ”

(1 Thessalonians 5:9).

Incidentally, I must say, that statement in 1 Thessalonians 5:9 along with the facts found in Romans 5:9,10; Hebrews 9:28; Revelation 6:16,17; 5:1,6,7; 6:1;19:15 are what convinced me that the Pre-Tribulation Rapture view is accurate and the view I choose to trust.  Scripture convinced me, teachers and their teachings confirm what I see in Scripture.

Another reason to study Bible Prophecy is that it you will know the truth of Scripture and be able to avoid the deceptions of the many false prophets rising up in our day.  New age deception is rampant.  The Bible tells us to learn the truth from Scripture and this truth will keep us free from deception.

Deception is subtle, so if you’re not studying the truth of Scripture, you will be taken captive by the lies that are running rampant in the world. Especially if you work in corporate settings, or are involved with business groups, public education, government positions, colleges and universities.

Peer pressure in the work place turns many from the faith. The fear of loosing a job, or a business destroys the faith of many. “The Lord knows those who are His,” and “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord MUST turn away from wickedness” (2 Timothy 2:19).  As you will see in this letter, there is far more to gain by turning away from a job or business than there is by turning away from the Lord.

Another reason to study Bible Prophecy is that it helps the serious student to live holy.  Keep in mind: God saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace (2 Timothy 1:9). Scripture tells us that we ought to live holy and godly lives as we look forward to the day of God and speed its coming (2 Peter 3:11).  If you think about it, if we don’t set our hearts to live holy and godly lives, the beliefs and attitudes of the world will crowd in and take us captive, especially at work.

Another reason for Studying Bible Prophecy is that it will build hope in your hearts, to that you will not fear the future events that are rushing towards us.

Finally, studying Bible Prophecy will stir you to tell others that Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for their sins, and He is the only way to gain eternal life.  Did you know that there is only one sin that sends anybody into hell, and eventually into the lake of fire?  That’s right, only one sin condemns anyone to never ending torment.  And did you know that God does not send anyone to hell?

Do you realize that there is only one sin that sends anyone into hell? God sends no one to hell! Spending eternity in hell is an individual decision and not a good one.

The Bible tells us: The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and excessive living, idolatry, greed, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like.

People who live like that will not inherit the kingdom of God, but none of those sins will send anyone to hell.  Why do I say that?  Because Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2).  The Bible tells us: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.  Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life for God’s wrath remains on him (John 3:16,18, 36).

From reading those statements of fact, you quickly realize that anyone who believes the truth of Jesus Christ will not be condemned, but those who refuse to believe in the name of the Son of God will be condemned.  So, the only sin that sends anyone to hell is the sin of rejecting Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for every person’s sins, but if the person refuses to accept God’s atoning sacrifice, they reject eternal life.
Clearly, we see that God does not send anyone to hell, the person sends himself or herself to hell. The atoning sacrifice has been made once for all ! -- 1 John 2:2

A WARNING: Here is what is going to happen in the very near future.

A false prophet is going to rise up and perform great and miraculous signs. Because of the signs he will deceive the inhabitants of the earth.  He will force everyone, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless they have the mark (Revelation 13;11-17).  Make no mistake about it, that is going to happen, and soon. If you have not accepted Jesus Christ, that will happen to you.

Matter of fact, the work of Satan will be displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they REFUSE to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness  (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12).

All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast – all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world (Revelation 13:8).  There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name (Revelation 14:11).

The lake of fire is the second death.  If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he/she will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15).  If you think about that, it is a bone chilling realization. Those people will be in the lake of fire, the place of never ending torment.

Knowing those facts should make us be more willing to tell those we know and love about God’s atoning Sacrifice – Jesus Christ!   Make no mistake: Accepting His Atoning Sacrifice is the only way to gain eternal life and escape eternal torment in the lake of fire.  Every person has the same decision to make, so we need to inform them of the facts and make it possible for them to choose eternal life, and escape never ending torment in the lake of fire.

In conclusion:

The purpose of Christ’s first coming was to announce the period of grace and salvation we are now living in. The second coming of Christ will finish God’s plan: Now through the church, He will make the manifold wisdom of God known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to His eternal purpose that He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord (Ephesians 3:10-12). That is, now, in Christ and through faith in Christ we may approach God with freedom and confidence. At the fullness of times, God will bring His people into an Eternity in His glorious presence.  MARANATHA!

“Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus (Revelation 22:20).

The Apostle Paul knew this: “Now there is in store for me the Crown Of Righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award me on that day – AND NOT ONLY ON ME, BUT ALSO to all who have longed for His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8).  Christian, look up for our redemption draws near, and if you are longing for the appearing of Jesus Christ, a crown of righteousness is waiting for you at the Bema Seat of Christ.
