Psalm 33

There is a lot of helpful information in Psalm 33. But then I am a person who takes what is written in the Bible literally. Why? Because it is written: “All Scripture is God breathed” – 2 Timothy 3:16. To me that says what is written in the Bible is God speaking.

The Bible is known as Scripture, and the Holy Spirit had it written.

It is also written in the Bible that the Holy Spirit is the author of the Bible: “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” – 2 Peter 1:20-21.

In addition, Jesus Christ promises that everyone who accepts Him into their lives that He will send the Holy Spirit into our lives to do four things: 1) He, the Spirit of truth will guide you into ALL truth. And Jesus Christ says God’s word is truth (John 17:17); 2) He, the Spirit of truth will tell you what is yet to come; 3) He, the Spirit of Truth will help the believer in Jesus Christ understand all that God has freely given us; 4) the Holy Spirit is changing us to be like Jesus Christ, a life-long process – John 16:13; John 17:17; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, et al

So what does this have to do with Psalm 33.

Everything!  The Holy Spirit had Psalm 33 written by king David for us to learn from today. And that same Holy Spirit lives in the heart of every believer in Jesus Christ, therefore, we can expect God to speak to anyone who has an open heart and takes God’s word literally.

Now about what God spoke to me from Psalm 33, and to you if you have an open heart to hear from the Spirit of truth. In this webpage I’m going to focus on one statement of fact from Psalm 33:

“From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches ALL who live on earth – He who forms the hearts of ALL, who considers EVERYTHING they do” – Psalm 33:13-15.

That is what Scripture says and that is what it means. You don’t have to interpret that statement, simply take it as written. It says what God wants said and anyone with an open heart will accept it as truth and live accordingly.

In December 1976, I can remember it clearly, the Spirit of truth spoke to me from Hebrews 4:13: “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Isn’t that the same as what is written in Psalm 33:13-15?  Sure is!

That moment in December 1976 I was reading the letter to the struggling Hebrew believers. I remember that I was leaning forward resting on my forearms with the Bible open before me. That statement in Hebrews 4:13 grabbed my attention. I kept re-reading it thinking about what was being said to me.

All of a sudden I sensed the Lord giving me understanding about that statement of fact. I leaned back and said to the Lord, I remember my words clearly: “Lord, do know what you’re saying here? (He wrote the Bible so I’m sure he knew what He was saying, to me). Lord, you’re telling me that nothing is hidden from you. You know every word I speak, and you see everything I do. And Lord, you know every thought I think, every attitude in my heart. You know everything lurking in the deep recesses of my being. Lord, I can’t hide anything from you.”

Then I made God this promise: “Lord, I’ll not be foolish, I will not hide anything from you. I will call sin, sin and confess it and ask for you forgiveness. I won’t make excuses or try to justify anything, I will confess my sins and ask for you to forgive me and cleanse me of that unrighteousness. I will do this because you’re worthy of me being honest before you!”

You see, I realize that when Scripture tells me not to do something and I do it, that is sin, and it is a deliberate act on my part. Sin is never an accident! If it is a thought, an attitude that goes against what is written in Scripture, it is deliberate on my part. Sin is always deliberate! I don’t hide anything from the Lord. Why? Because sin works against you, sin brings trouble into your life.

It’s a sad fact that a lot of Christians don’t read the Bible, they say they don’t have time. The fact is: the less time you spend reading the Bible the more time you struggle with temptation, and most likely more time yielding to temptation.

Sin is the cause of your problems, not God.

Many times I’ve heard Christians ask: “Why is God doing this to me.” Or “Why is God allowing this to happen to me?” It’s not God, don’t blame Him for your troubles, it’s the sin you are allowing to be active in your life that’s causing you trouble and hardship.

It is written: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A person reaps what he/she sows. The one who sows to please his/her sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life” – Galatians 6:7-8.

What’s the answer:

Because I CHOOSE to spend time reading and reflecting on Scripture, daily, I know the choices I have to make, and I make them. I choose to please the Holy Spirit, so can you Christian.

Because I CHOOSE to take God at His word, I know that I am not to THINK ABOUT how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature – Romans 13:14. You too Christian.

Also, because I CHOOSE to read and believe Scripture, I know that I have been set free from sin and have become a save to righteousness, and the benefit I reap leads to holiness – Romans 6:18-22. That is written for every Christian to read and believe, and act accordingly.

That is not a guilt trip, it is the solution for your troubles!

It’s our choice Christian:

Either we spend time reading and reflecting on and believing what God says in Scripture or we will struggle with temptation and sin.

The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus my Lord, that’s fact – Romans 6:23. It’s our choice Christian. Nothing is hidden from God’s sight, and we will give account for our words, actions, thoughts and attitudes.

Choose to please the Holy Spirit, He will help you do that Christian as you spend time reading, reflecting on and believing what is written in the Bible.

God’s word works and it works for those who choose to live God’s word. That’s my choice and it’s your choice Christian.

We’re in God’s redemption process and the Holy Spirit is in our lives to help us. He is always for us, so spend time reading, reflecting on, and believing God’s word. The author of the Bible lives in you Christian, give Him the time He needs to help you live a Christian life.

The Spirit of truth will make it easy for you if you let Him, read the word daily, reflect on what is being said and the Lord will give you understanding. The Lord promises to reward those who earnestly seek Him – Hebrews 11:6.

Keep this in mind:

“From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches ALL who live on earth – He who forms the hearts of ALL, who considers EVERYTHING they do” – Psalm 33:13-15.

An Invitation: If you haven’t accepted God’s free gift of forgiveness yet, but you would like to experience the New Life He promises, simply pray this prayer: “Jesus Christ, I choose to believe you are the Son of God and God’s only sacrifice for the forgiveness of my sins. I admit it, I’m a sinner, please forgive my sins, and I ask you to come into my life, I want to be born again. Save me Jesus. I don't understand it, but please save me Jesus. Please show me how real you are! Also baptize me with your Holy Spirit; I want everything you have for me. Thank you for accepting me.”

If you’re a skeptic you can pray a prayer like this: “God, if this is true about Jesus Christ and a new life, please help me understand so that I can accept your gift of eternal life that you purchased for me by the sacrifice of Your Son.”
