Motivational Gifts

Instead of reading and believing what God says in His word, people try to put their own meaning on what is written. You hear them say things like: "That's not what that means." Or, "You have to interpret that in light of the full counsel of God's Word," or "You have to look at what the original languages say," or "We have to look at what the experts say." No, No, No, God did not give us His word to interpret, nor to put meaning to what is said. God has given us His word to read and believe and then act on it. Why am I pointing this out?

Because people want to manipulate and control what people believe and what they do. Christian groups just like any secular or religious group want to control what motivates the individuals in their group so that they can assign each one the task the group wants them to function in. But that is not what God wants.

Speaking of His Church, God says this: "The body is a unit, though it is make up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body" -- 1 Corinthians 12:12.

And He also says this: "But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, EVERY ONE OF THEM, jsut as He wanted them to be," -- 1 Corinthians 12:18.

That idea scares insecure leaders who want to have control of the group. They want to maintain control, and they want people in the positions they know they can count on to do what they want those people to do. They don't want to loose control.

God has created His people as individuals and given each one individual gifts. There are spiritual gifts distributed by the Holy Spirit for the common good -- 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14. And there are MOTIVATIONAL GIFTS, those gifts that move God's people to do what He wants them to do. Motivational gifts are inner drives.

There are two catagories of motivational gifts and several types of ways people will express their inner motivations. They are motivations from the heart, they are not natural talent, nor mental abilities. You don't have to develop those inner motivations, you simply need to be controlled by them.

God's word says: EACH ONE should use whatever GIFT he/she has received to serve others, faithfully adminstering God's grace in its VARIOUS FORMS -- 1 Peter 4:10. So we see that we are to serve others by what we are motivated to do, not by what needs to be done. As we do what we are motivated to do, we express God's grace, and God's grace has VARIOUS FORMS. God's grace is not a single, fit all sizes form.

When people are free to do according to the inner motivation, God's grace will be expressed in ways we can't even imagine. God is lavish. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom --
2 Corinthians 3:17,18.

What are you motivated to do?

"If anyone speaks, he/she should do it as one speaking the very words of God."
"If anyone serves, he/she should do it with the strength God provides."
So that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ -- 1 Peter 4:11.

There are two catagories of motivation giftings: Those who speak, and those who put their hands to the task. Because this fact is not taught in the body of Christ, this lack of understanding causes friction, distrust, and division in Christian groups.

Those who are motivated to speak are not appreciated, nor liked by those who are the hands on type. You hear them complaining that 20% of the people do 80% of the work. That is the way it is meant to be. God says, "Do everything in love" -- 1 Corinthians 16:14. If what you are doing is not motivated in love, quit doing it, or you will cause contention.

Not everyone is a "helps minstry." A lot of people don't like to help out, they love to speak, and that is the way God intends it. Verbal gifts love to talk, they don't like to lend a hand. Don't expect them to show up on a work day, or if they do, they will start converstations. That's the way God designed it.

The types of motivational gifts:

God says:"Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has give you" -- Romans 12:3

God has given every born again Christian a measure of His faith, you have faith. We are not to think of ourselves more hightly than we ought, but we are not to think of ourselves any less that we ought. For example, if you are a verbal gift, don't think you are God's gifted speaker to the world, but neither are you to deny that inner motivation to speak God's word.

If you are a motivated service gift, don't think you are the ONLY one doing all the work. Do everything in love, and enjoy doing what you are motivated to do. Don't expect others to lend a hand, be happy that you are part of the 20% and leave the 80% alone.

God says: "Just as EACH OF US has one body with may members, and these members do not ALL HAVE THE SAME FUNCTION, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have DIFFERENT GIFTS, ACCORDING TO THE GRACE GIVEN US" -- Romans 12:5-6.

DO YOU SEE IT? THERE IS SOMETHING INSIDE OF YOU MOVING YOU TO WANT TO DO WHAT YOU DO. THAT IS THE MOTIVATIONAL GIFT FROM GOD PLACED IN YOUR HEART.

Here are the ways motivational gifts will be expressed, that is if they are allowed to be expressed-- Romans 12:6-8:

- If  a person's motivational gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith - Romans 12:6.

Roxanne Brant had a teaching on this matter of motivational gifts and I think her teaching is accurate. She pointed out that this gift of prophecy is not the same as the spiritual gift listed in 1 Corinthians 12.

She also pointed out that it means more than a person standing up and giving a word or prophecy.  A word of prophecy speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort -- 1 Corinthians 14:3.

But the person with the motivational gift of prophecy has a prophetic nature and a strong desire to know what is in the heart of God in order to alert the body of believers.

The reason people don't appreciate the prophetic gifted people is because they do not understand the motivational gifts.

I was a young Christain when this gift expressed itself through me. Standing in a large group of Christians, many with a lot of years of experience, and inside I felt a strong compulsion to speak out. I was scared, but I opened my mouth and began to speak. After I finished several others began to speak out a word of prophesy and all of the messages blened together as a word of encouragement.

Over the years as I continue to study God's word concerning motivational gifts and the spiritual gifts my faith to speak grew. God's word says our faith is to grow and we are to grow our faith by studying God's word, praying in the Spirit, and by using the faith we have any point.

Also, I saw the purpose for prohecy in God's word, so I was more confortable with what I was prompted to speak: "everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their Strengthening, Encouragement and Comfort" -- 1 Corinthians 14:3. So knowing that I knew the confines of any work of prophecy. That caused my faith to grow and my ability to prophesy to groups, large and small, to increase and become easier.

God says:  If a person's gift is to prophesy let him/her to prophesy.  He also says, don't treat propheceis with contempt, if you do, you're hurting your group and yourself -- Romans 12:6;
1 Thessalonians 5:10.

- If a peson's gift is serving, helps, let him/her serve. And do everything in love, or don't do it, you will develop a martyrs mentality: I'm doing it all. And stop being irritated by the talkers, they're doing what God wants them doing -- Romans 12:7; 1 Corinthians 16:14

It a person's gift is teaching, LET HIM/HER TEACH, that is clear direction. What do you do if the largest percentange of your group want to teach? Make opportunity for them to teach. Set up classes throughout the week, day and night if need be. But don't hinder the verbal gifts from speaking.

Now I must add this. There are two types of verbal gifts: teachers and preachers. Teachers are serious students and study, and then they need to be able to explain what they learn. They explain what the word of God says. While preachers proclaim the word of God. They are not as in depth as teachers, they are motivators, cheer leaders. They will keep the people motivated.

Verbal gifts are rejected a lot of times becasue groups don't want just anybody speaking to them, so they try to get verbal gifts to stop talking and get busy helping out. When people won't let you teach or preach that's when the verbal gift needs to leave.

Keep looking for a group that will give you opportunity to speak, or else spend time alone with the head of the body, Jesus Christ and let him raise you up to build a new work. When you do, make sure you make way for the verbal gifts He will bring to your group.

Whatever you do, DO NOT LET GO OF YOUR INNER DRIVE TO SPEAK, either as a teacher, or a preacher. Don't let what people think of you deter you from speaking. I say that becasue I'm a teacher and I know what's it like to have people reject my gifting. I have been insulted by some of the best, and I refuse to let go of the inner drive to teach God's word to His people.

- If a person's gift is encouraging, let him/her encourage. This is another verbal gift, so don't be discouraged when people don't appreciate you. You are so postive some people can't stand you, you need to accept that and not be discouraged. Keep speaking those words of encouragement, that is the motivation God has put in you, don't hinder that inner motivation to speak word of encouragement.

Speak to those who will receive from you, and stay away from those who reject your gifting. Jesus Christ told his disciples that whent they were persecuted in one place, flee to another-- Matthew 10:11-23. Don't put up with people's rejection and insults, leave. They are not rejecting you, they are rejecting God's gift, His expression of His grace.

- If a person't gift is contributing, let him/her give generously, for God loves a cheerful giver. But remember, each person should give what he/she has decided in their heart, no reluctantly or under compulsion -- Romans 12:8; 2 Corinthians 9:6-11. Givers have a lot of specific blessings promsied by God. You decide what you're going to give, don't allow people to heap guilt trips on you.

Also,  according to God's word, there is nothing wrong with being rich. God gives us all things to enjoy, not feel guilty about. I've seen it happen in so many Christian groups where the people who don't have try to compel those who do have to share their wealth with them. They provoke guilt about being wealthy, but it was God who gives some to produce great wealth. The wealthy are to share, but they don't have to give it all away, nor are they to feel guilty about have wealth  --
2 Timothy 6:17-19.

When people press you to give, walk away. You are to give what you have decided to give --
2 Corinthians 9:7. That is between you and God, God loves a cheerful giver and you can't be cheerful about giving what you feel forced to give.

- If a person's gift is leadership, let him govern diligently. This can be a thankless position. A lot of people, especially in this society don't like the idea of being a follower.  If you are motivated to lead, lead.   A leader is to be sheperd who cares for his flock, not a herdsman who drives his herd. You lead by leading, not by driving the people. Always keep in mind that you are the overseer of the flock of which the Holy Spirit made you the overseer -- Acts 20:28. So your main responsibility is to develop your ability to hear and respond to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

I've hear it said by a number of Christain leaders that in this hour of Chruch history if a shepherd (leader) will not allow the spiritual gifts to be active in the group, and that group wants the gifts to be active, then the Holy Spirit will remove that leader from that group. On the other hand, if the leader wants the spiritual gifts to flow among the people, but the people do not want that, the the Holy Spirit will remove that leader from that group, and that group will flounder. Yet again, if neither the leader nor the group will allow the Holy Spirit to distribute the spiritual gifts among that group, He will cause that group to shrivel up and the doors will be closed. Leaders beware!

- If a person's gift is show mercy, let him/her do it cheerfully. These are are people who can show empathy to others going through hard times. They'll come along side and listen. But keep in mind, they are not the best helpers. They will sit and listen, comfort and encourage, bring trinket gifts, but you can't expect that they will do anything practicle to help. That's not be critical, it's just they way they are. They'll pat your hand, comfort you, send you cards, text messages etc, but don't expect much help from them. They are mercy gifts, they show mercy, they are not there to provide deliverance from your problems. They are cheerful.

Hopefully you see that God has provided different inner motivations in order to demostrate His grace in various forms. Knowing this should help you to stop being annoyed by those who won't do the things you want them to do, or act the way you want them to act. They are motivated by God, not you, accept that fact and you wil get long better.

“Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God and the only way to God. I admit that I’m a sinner, please forgive my sins and come into my life; I want to be born again. Please show me how real you are, also baptize me with your Holy Spirit. Thank you for accepting me.”

If you’re a skeptic: “God, if this is true, please help me understand so that I can accept the gift of New Birth you purchased for me.
