Hearing God

Yes, God wants us to hear Him speaking to us!

  • God sent His Spirit into our lives to guide us into all truth – John 16:13
  • Jesus Christ declares that God’s word is truth – John 17:17
  • God has exalted above all things His name and His word – Psalm 138:2
  • The Spirit of God is the author of Scripture – 2 Peter 1:21
  • All Scripture is God speaking – 2 Timothy 3:16
  • The author of Scripture lives in every born again believer – 1 Corinthians 2:12; 6:19
  • God promises to reward those who earnestly seek Him in His word – Matthew 7:8; Hebrews 11:6

Each of us born again believers can be confident that the author of Scripture, the Spirit of truth will not allow us to be deceived if we allow Him to guide us into the truth of Scripture.

We can trust the Holy Spirit who lives in each of us! - 1 Corinthians 2:12.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever – Hebrews 13:8. That means the things He said back when, He is still saying today. Because He wants us to know what He would say to each of us today, He had what He said put into writing for us read today.

Jesus Christ is an effective communicator who was prepared in advance to communicate with His people today. All we have to do is open the Bible and read what the Lord would say to us at any given moment. That’s right, open the Bible and let Jesus Christ talk to us!

What keeps a person from hearing God speaking to him or her?

Unbelief, the person does not take God at His word. God’s word tells us that the Spirit of truth lives in each of us - 1 Corinthians 6:19. The word of God also tells us that we have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us – 1 Corinthians 2:12. That is God speaking! All Scripture is God breathed – 2 Timothy 3:16.

Jesus Christ is the same today as He was back when He came the first time, so the things He said back when, He is still saying to today. And we have what He said in writing. He is still saying the same things today to whoever will listen and believe. He said this and He is still saying this today to anyone who will believe, “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me” – John 10:27.  All you have to do to hear His voice is open the Bible and spend time listening to what is written, it’s as simple as that.

Personally, I love hearing Jesus speaking to my heart.

It’s such a comforting experience. When I sit down before the Lord and open the Bible the Holy Spirit guides me. He knows what I need to hear at any given moment of my life.

The Holy Spirit prompts me, sometimes to do a topical study, other times He prompts me to read a certain book in the Bible, sometimes He leads me to reflect on certain of God’s promises. And I find myself talking to Lord about what is written as I read. He always answers my questions.

It impresses me how I will start looking at Scripture and then be prompted to turn to another place and then to another place in the Bible and in the end I will have heard a complete message from the Lord. It is always the message I need to hear at that time.

For example, maybe I was struggling with fear of the future. He knows what’s in my heart. He knows what is troubling me every moment of my life. Deep inside, not in my thoughts, I sense the need to look at God’s promises concerning His guidance and Him being my provider. As I look at those promises His peace replaces fear. At the same time, I sense the things I need to do. God does promise to give wisdom to whoever will ask and not doubt – James 1:5-8.

The Holy Spirit always helps me understand what God has freely given me in Christ.

For example, years ago I listened to a lot of people in Christian circles arguing about God healing people today. So many of those people said God does not heal everybody, and they also said you can never know for certain what God would do. But thankfully others said the opposite.

That drove me into a search in God’s word. I wanted and needed to know if God is willing to heal today. I found out that He has already provided healing for anyone who will believe and receive.

In my search, the Holy Spirit led me to these statements of fact: “When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to Him, and He drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases’” – Matthew 8:16-17.

When I read that I kept thinking about that. I thought about if for days. The different arguments came to mind, one argument was that this concerned what happen back then not today. But that argument didn’t make sense to me because it says “This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah.” In other words, what Jesus Christ did that day fulfilled prophecy and that means that fulfilled prophecy is a provision for today.

And then the Holy Spirit led me to this statement in 1 Peter 2:24: “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might dies to sins and live for righteousness; by His stripes you have been healed.” That is the same prophecy spoken by Isaiah pointed to by Matthew – Isiah 53:4-5.

Again I thought about this for days and the arguments rolled around in my thoughts. Arguments like: “That’s not what the means.” Or “That is talking about spiritual healing.” The longer I thought about what is written the less those arguments made sense.

For example, when you were born again, you literally received a new spirit, that means you were spiritually healed. You don’t need spiritual healing if you are born again. You may physical healing, mental healing, emotional healing, but not spiritual healing.

After my search in Scripture concerning diving health and healing I was totally convinced that Jesus Christ not only provided redemption, the forgiveness of my sins, but He also provided healing and health. Also, I learned about the praise cure. Seek the Lord and He will reveal that provision to you, but you will have to seek Him! I’m not going to tell you about it, that wouldn’t do you any good.

After I learned that Jesus Christ took up my infirmities (weaknesses, feebleness’s) and that He carried my diseases also pains, and that by His stripes I was healed, I used the praise cure to experience the physical healing I needed.

For example, with the praise cure I’ve received healing for a crippling back problem, heart attack, diabetes, high blood pressure, and many other physical problems over the years. How, I chose to seek the Lord as He promised and I chose to believe what I found in Scripture. I choose to believe and receive.

Doubt is a thief of God’s greater blessings. Unbelief if refusing to believe and you live on a roller coaster, up and down you go. Fear and guilt torment you. Faith sets you free!

Faith is always now! Faith is being certain of what God says.

Without faith it is impossible to please God – Hebrews 11:6, so with faith it is possible to please God. Jesus Christ promise everyone who will believe what He says: “Everything is possible for him who (whoever) believes” – Mark 9:23. He also promises: “Nothing will be impossible for you” if you use you faith – Matthew 17:20.  This is what Jesus Christ is saying to you today, what are you going to believe?

Jesus Christ also says this: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away” – Matthew 24:35. This is what Jesus Christ is saying to you today, what are you going to believe?
