Healing/Health - Part 3

Jesus Christ purchased healing and health for His people!

On this page we will:

1. Review the fact that Jesus Christ purchased healing and health for His people

2. Explain what faith is and how it works

3. Point out the best method for receiving healing;  God provided it

4. Provide David’s personal testimony of the healing of his weak back

Jesus Christ came to deliver His people from sin, and from sickness, pain and sorrow.  He is the author of life, not death.

  • “The thief (devil) comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they, My sheep, may have life, and have it to the full,” John 10:10. Jesus Christ said that, and He always told the truth.

Sickness, disease, pain and sorrow robs people of a full life. Sickness and disease kills and destroys lives.  The devil and the powers of darkness are the ones who bring sickness and disease, pain and sorrow.

Sickness is not from heaven; there is no sickness in heaven. So the next time you pray the “Lord’s prayer” and say, “let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” keep in mind, you are asking God to send healing and health. It is God’s will that people be healed, He is the author of life.

In order to fulfill what the prophet Isaiah spoke:

  • Jesus Christ “bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed” – 1 Peter 2:24.
  • He, Jesus Christ, took up our infirmities (weaknesses, feeblenesses) and carried our diseases – Matthew 8:17 fulfills Isaiah 53:4.
  • Also, the Bible tells us that: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree’”—Galatians 3:13

The curse of the law brings sin, sickness, poverty and many more tragedies.  It is the blessings of God that bring healing and health, and God’s blessings belong to those who are included in Christ.

Jesus Christ took up our infirmities and carried our diseases, by His stripes (wounds: he was flogged and) we are healed.

All Scripture is God breathed – 2 Timothy 3:16.  In other words, everything recorded in the Bible is God speaking.

  • You don’t have any question that God will not answer if you spend time searching for answers in the Bible. God promises that if you ask you shall receive and if you seek you shall find, and when you knock on the door, God will open the door of understanding to you; you will get your answers – Matthew 7:7,8.

What is faith and how does it work? Here is God’s definition of Faith and His explanation of how faith works:

  •  “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and being certain of what we do not see” – Hebrews 11:1.
  • When you think about it “being sure” and “being certain” implies that you need to make the choice to believe.

Put simply: Faith is making the choice to believe.

Here are some examples of how you use faith in your everyday lives:

  • You get up in the morning because you believe that you have a job
  • You get into your car and turn the key because you believe if you do that, your car will start and you can drive to where you want to go
  • You get on board an airplane believing it will fly and not crash

You use faith all day long, everyday of your lives.

Think about this: If people didn’t chose to believe,  airplanes, autos, roads, houses, buildings would not have been invented and built.  People chose to be sure of what they hoped for and were certain of what they did not yet see. That is faith, and that is how faith works.

When you choose to believe and not doubt,  that is faith in action. You do that all the time.

Faith is the power to heal. Here are some examples showing faith is the power that heals:

A woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind Him (Jesus) and touched the edge of His cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed” – Matthew 9:20,21.

Jesus turned and saw her and said to her, “Take heart, daughter, YOUR FAITH has healed you” – Matthew 9:22.

Be honest with yourself, her faith healed her, that is what Jesus Christ told her. And He is telling us that same thing today because God made sure it was written in the Bible for us to read and believe.

The woman said to herself, “If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed.” That was the choice she made. She was certain of what she hoped for and she was certain of what she did not yet see.

He body was still suffering before she touched the cloak of Jesus Christ, but she was certain her body would be healed if only she touched Jesus Christ.  That is how faith works. When you make the choice to believe and touch Jesus Christ, you will be healed.

Here is the best method for receiving healing:

That incident with the woman touching the cloak of Jesus Christ points out the best method for receiving the healing you may need: Use your faith. Reach out to Jesus Christ. He is always there waiting for you to touch Him with faith.  According to your faith it will be done for you, so choose to believe in the healing power of Jesus Christ and be healed.

Jesus Christ is still healing people today:

The Bible tells us that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” – Hebrews 13:8.

What does that statement mean?  It means Jesus Christ is always the same, so the things He did back when, He is still doing today.  The only difference is that today He is doing them through people who have faith in Him – John 14:12.

If you are born again, God gave you a measure of His faith:

The moment you were born again, God gave you a measure of His faith, the Bible tells us that: “think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you” – Romans 12:3.  You cannot say you don’t have faith because God gave you measure of His faith.

Our measure is meant to grow more and more – 2 Thessalonians 1:3, but if we don’t make the effort to grow our faith we will end up with weak faith, or little faith.

God wants us to have mountain moving faith instead of weak faith. Growing our faith requires that we use the measure of faith we now have, hear the word of God, and pray in tongues to build up or most holy faith.

Lack of faith will stop God from doing miracles:

Two of Jesus’ followers saw this happen and they wrote about it.  Matthew wrote this: “And He (Jesus) did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith” – Matthew 13:58.

Mark wrote: “He (Jesus) could not do any miracles there, except lay His hands on a few sick people and heal them.  And He was amazed at their lack of faith” – Mark 6:6.

Jesus Christ could not do any miracles there because of the people's lack of faith. It does not say He wouldn't do many miracles there, it says He could not do any miracles there because of their lack of faith.

Jesus Christ the same today, so He is still amazed by your lack of faith.

And He is still amazed by great faith:

A woman went to Jesus asking Him to heal her daughter who was “suffering terribly from demon-possession.”  Jesus answered her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour – Matthew 15:28.

Jesus told her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.”

People who use their faith please God, that’s what the Bible tells us: “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because ANYONE who comes to Him must believe that He exists (in their situation) and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” – Hebrews 11:6.

If it is impossible to please God without faith, then it is possible to please God with faith.

The moment you choose to believe God is willing to heal you, you will be sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.

Your point of contact; you need to release your faith:

Your point of contact is something you do that helps you believe.  It’s the moment you release your faith; the moment you make the decision to believe God will heal you. You point of contact is that thing that makes you believe.

You point of contact may be what is written in the Bible.  You choose to believe: “Jesus Christ bore all of my infirmities and carried my diseases, by His stripes I am healed.”  Those facts cause a confidence to rise up in your heart and you believe God has healed you, and you will receive healing.

The Bible tells us that it is with ours hearts that we believe, so faith is in our hearts. But is also says it is with our mouth that we confess and are saved.  So we need to get what we believe out of our heart and into our mouth.

It is with your mouth that you are saved from sickness, disease, pain and sorrow -- Romans 10:10. Your mouth releases your faith from your heart, and great faith pleases God.

David’s testimony:

Years ago I had a weak back, and the discs in my spine would slip out of place. The pain would be so severe that I could not sit down, lay down, or stand up without great pain. The pain traveled all the way down my left leg causing me to have to drag my leg, I couldn’t lift it to walk.

During a time when my back was causing me a lot of pain, I sought God in His word concerning healing and that is when I the statement in Matthew 8:17 stood out to me.

  • “This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”

That statement grabbed my attention and I read it over and over, and then this realization came to me: This makes healing and health a provision of the New Covenant.

Then I looked up the meaning of the word “infirmities” and found that it means weaknesses and feeblenesses.”  At that moment, I realized that Jesus Christ healed me of my weak back.”

Those statements in the Bible were my point of contact. They made it possible for me to release my faith and receive my healing.

Then what did I do with my faith?

That morning I was considering going to the doctor instead of going to work, but I read Matthew 8:17 again and said, “If I stay home I will be slapping Jesus Christ is the face.  By His stripes I am healed.” I got up limped off to work.

Mind you, my body was still full of sharp pain, and I was still dragging my left leg. It was hard to walk. The pain was fierce, and my thoughts were tormenting me: “What are you doing? Do you want to end up a cripple? Go home. Go to the doctor.”

But the most amazing thing was also going on inside of me.  Deep down inside I kept hearing a quiet voice, a calm voice saying: “Son, it’s yours, take it. I paid the price for you healing, take it, it’s yours.”

What I was hearing in my heart would have been so easy to dismiss because of the pain in my body, the conflicting thoughts hammering in my mind, and the taunting of the people around me.  What did I do?

What I was hearing in my heart was another a point of contact for me, helping me release my faith to receive my healing. It made me choose to believe that Jesus Christ already healed me, I had to take it, it belonged to me because of the stripes of Jesus Christ.  At that point, I was certain of that!

So I made the choice to truly believe that Jesus Christ took up my infirmities and carried all my diseases, by His stripes I was healed.  My faith was sure, I was certain of what I did not yet see.  I felt the pain, and my thoughts were screaming at me – your wrong, but in my heart I believed that I was healed by the stripes of Jesus Christ.

I went to work and at work, I acted like I was healed. I moved things around and did everything else I needed to do.  Some of my friends at work keep taunting me: “What are doing here? You’re acting crazy; go home. Go to the doctor.”  They said the very things that were hammering at my faith in my thoughts.

Finally, I said to them: “By the stripes of Jesus Christ I'm healed, get away from me, leave me alone.”

In order to find relief from all the taunting I limped off into a secluded stairwell. Standing there in the filthy place, ankle deep in trash, dirt filling the air, I lifted my hands to heaven and I praised God, thanking him: “Jesus thank you that by your stripes I'm healed.  Thank you Lord for healing me.”  I didn’t ask Jesus to heal me, instead I thanked Him that he healed me. I kept that up for, I don’t know how long, a few moments maybe more, I don’t remember.   But then without thinking about it, I walked out of that stairwell.

At first I didn’t notice it, but the pain was gone and I was walking normal.  One of the guys came up to me. He had a look of shock on his face; his mouth was open and his eyes were wide open.  Finally he asked, “What happened?  You’re walking normal.” That’s when I noticed that I was walking normal and all the pain was gone.

I answered him, “I told you by the stripes of Jesus Christ I was healed.”

He shook his head and walked away, but He didn’t harass me any more about going to the doctor.  A few weeks later I was able to tell him the good news about Jesus Christ and he accept God’s gift of eternal life.

My faith healed me!

I made the choice to believe that Jesus Christ healed me. I was certain, I was sure of it, and because of my faith I was able to walk past the pain, beyond my troubling thoughts and the comments of others who tried to convince me I was wrong.  I walked past all of that and into my healing.

That was over 26 years ago, and my back is still pain free. Because I am persuaded that Jesus Christ took up my weak back, I’ve been able to enjoy 26 years of freedom from back problems.

It was my choice to believe and I’m glad I chose to have faith in what is written in God’s Word: Healing and Health are provisions in the New Covenant.

In summary: Jesus Christ purchased healing and health for His people, this fulfills prophecy spoken by the prophet Isaiah. We discussed what faith is and how it works. Also, we stated that faith is the power to heal, and we gave some examples to show this.  Then we spoke of the best method for receiving healing, and stated that Jesus Christ is still healing people today. Then we explained that a lack of faith stops God from doing miracles and gave examples.  We showed that Jesus Christ has not changed, He is the same today, and He is still healing today. Then we explained the point of contact, and the need for you to release your faith, and how to do that. We provided a first hand testimony of how this works.

Without hesitation or reservation, I tell you that the best method for receiving healing from God is by you releasing your personal faith according to what is written in God’s Word: by the wounds of Jesus Christ you are healed; He took ALL of your infirmities upon Himself, and He carried ALL of you diseases too

In closing let me say this: Other people have other points of contact for releasing their faith, e.g. having someone pray for them. That’s ok, that works for some people and I’ll explain how that works in the Part 4.

But I must tell you that allowing the word of God be your point of contact it is the surest way of keeping your healing once you experience it.

Don’t take this lightly, the devil will come after you like a roaring lion wanting to rob you of your faith and your healing – 1 Peter 5:8-9. In Part 5, I’ll explain how to resist the devil and chase him off when he comes roaring after you in.

If you are a born again Christian God has lavished His grace and love upon your life, don't doubt that!  If you are not born again, but you want God to lavish His grace and love upon your life, here is His invitation.

An Invitation: If you haven’t accepted God’s free gift of forgiveness yet, but you would like to experience the New Life He promises, simply pray this prayer:  “Jesus Christ, I choose to believe you are the Son of God and God’s only sacrifice for the forgiveness of my sins. I admit it, I’m a sinner, please forgive my sins, and I ask you to come into my life, I want to be born again. Save me Jesus.  I don't understand it, but please save me Jesus.  Please show me how real you are! Also baptize me with your Holy Spirit; I want everything you have for me. Thank you for accepting me.”

If you’re a skeptic you can pray a prayer like this: “God, if  this is true about Jesus Christ and a new life, please help me understand so that I can accept your gift of eternal life that you purchased for me by the sacrifice of Your Son.”
