Healing/Health - Part 1

The works of the devil, Satan and his dominion of darkness, include sin and sickness.  Thankfully, the reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work -- 1 John 3:8.

You don't believe in the devil? That means he's got you right where he wants you. "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God" -- 2  Corinthians 4:4.

Thank God, Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil – Acts 10:38. And Jesus is still going around healing those oppressed by the devil. How is He doing that?

How is Jesus Christ doing that today?

  • Through His followers who take Jesus at His word:This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did --1 John 2:6
  • Those who claim to be born again are to walk as Jesus did: God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him -- Acts 10:38
  • Jesus Christ promises all those who will take Him at His word: “I tell you the truth, ANYONE who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing.  He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it” -- John 14:12-14.

Acts 10:38 tells us that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power and then He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, God was with Him.

Jesus Christ did not heal people to prove that He was God in the flesh.  He healed people through the anointing and power of God.  Jesus Christ did not perform any miracles until after He was baptized and the Holy Spirit came upon Him. The Holy Spirit brings the power of God, and every believing Christian can experience the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the power of God working through them. Yes, every believing Christian can go around doing good and healing all who are under the power of the devil, God will be with you.

How can I say that? Because it is written in the Bible. Let’s take a look at what the word of God says about being anointed with power from on high.

  • Luke 24:49 reveals the first information about God anointing the followers of Jesus Christ with miracle working power. Jesus told his followers, those who clung to His every word: You are my witnesses. “I am going to send you what My Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been CLOTHED WITH POWER FROM ON HIGH.

What did His Father promise His Son Jesus? And how did His Father keep His promise?

  • “Exalted to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, and has poured out what you now see and hear” – Acts 2:33.

What did the people now see and hear?

  • “When the Day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them” Acts 2:1-4.

How do we know this was the fulfillment of God’s promise to His Son?

  • Keep in mind that Jesus told His followers to stay in the city until they have been clothed with power from on High.

What else did Jesus tell His followers concerning being clothed with power from on high?

  • After His resurrection but before His ascension back to heaven and to His rightful place at the right hand of the Most High, He went around appearing to His followers more than once.
  • On one occasion, while He was eating with them, He gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about (Luke 24:49). For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit” – Acts 1:4-5.
  • That is what happened on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem, to those who were waiting and expecting to happen what Jesus told them would happen.

So we see that the baptism with the Holy Spirit is the fulfillment of God’s promises to His Son Jesus Christ.

  • Jesus Christ fulfilled His Father’s will so His Father gave Jesus the right to pour out the Spirit of God upon those who follow Him and are willing to receive God’s promised Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus Christ came to be sacrificial lamb of God, the Once For All Atoning Sacrifice for the sins of mankind; He accomplished that and that is why He has the right to pour out the power from on High upon ANYONE who has faith in Him.

Jesus Christ told, and is still telling His followers today, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses” – Acts 1:8.

  • The baptism with the Holy Spirit, and the anointing with the power of God, is for ANYONE who has faith in Jesus Christ – John 14:12.  Not just for leaders in the church, its for ANYONE who will have faith in Jesus Christ.

Here is a great example of what may happen for you if you choose to have faith in Jesus Christ: Those who had been persecuted scattered, and they preached the word wherever they went. They didn’t go to Bible College nor seminary to be trained how to preach the word, they were driven out by persecution. They scattered and preached everywhere they went.

Philip, was not an apostle, not a recognized leader, but went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. He was willing to preach the good news of Jesus Christ and probably out in the open: “when the crowds heard Philip and SAW the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what Philip said. With shrieks, evil spirit came out of many, and many PARALYTICS AND CRIPPLES WERE HEALED. So there was great joy in that city – Acts 8:4-8.

Once the demons left their bodies, the paralytics and cripples were healed. You don’t believe that?

  • You are forgetting was is said in Acts 10:38: “Jesus of Nazareth was anointed with the Holy Spirit and power, and he went around doing good and healing all where were under the power of the devil.

Here is another example of people being healed after demons are driven out of their bodies:

  •  “When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to Jesus, and He drove out the spirits with a word and HEALED all the sick” – Matthew 8:16.

Keep in mind what Jesus tells us: “The thief (devil – Luke 8:12) comes only to steal and kill and destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” - John 10:10

  • Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, and He came so that all who have faith in Him will enjoy a full life. Sickness is not from God. There is not sickness in heaven, so God does not send sickness on people, the devil brings sin and sickness in order to rob, kill and destroy lives.

Now we know that:

  • ANYONE who has faith in Jesus Christ can received the baptism with the Holy Spirit.
  • We also now know that the baptism with the Holy Spirit brings the power of God into the believers life. Anyone who has faith in Jesus can walk like Jesus walked.

It is safe to conclude: If you have faith in Jesus Christ, He promises that if you receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit, you will do even greater things than He did when He walked on earth. Read it for yourself – John 14:12-14.

Therefore, if you have faith in Jesus Christ you can walk as Jesus did.  God is willing to anoint you with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, entrusting you with His power to do good and heal all who are under the power of the devil; God will be with you wherever you go proclaiming the Christ.

Beware, there is a good chance that as you preach Christ demons will come out of people with shrieks and the people will be healed.  Crowds will get happy, but for Christ’s sake don’t let the crowds exalt you as god. Keep going from town to town, don’t become a victim of pleasing the crowds.

Listen, “Jesus healed so many that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch Him.  Whenever the evil spirits saw Him, they fell down before him and cried out” – Mark 3:10.  If you have faith in Jesus Christ demons will flee when you preach.

How did Jesus walk? Jesus ministered to people until after dark, but very early in the morning while is was still dark He woke and went off by Himself to a solitary place where he prayed.  He didn’t hang out with the happy crowds. He didn't let the crowds control Him.

One morning his companions went to look for Him, and when they found Him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you.” That would make most preachers ecstatic: the crowds are coming, I’m in demand, our church  will grow, the budget will be met and we can build.

What did Jesus do when the crowd looked for Him?  He replied, “Let us go somewhere else – to the nearby villages – so I can preach there also. That is why I came.” So He traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their religious centers and driving out demons.  That would get a preacher kicked out immediately and told never to come back.  After all, for many religious thinkers, demons aren’t real, and certainly Christians can’t have a demon.

So the choice is yours: Will you be someone who has faith in Jesus Christ and be anointed with the Holy Spirit and walk as Jesus did, driving out demons and seeing the sick healed, or will you be a servant to the crowd saying what they want to hear?

If you are a born again Christian God has lavished His grace and love upon your life, don't doubt that!  If you are not born again, but you want God to lavish His grace and love upon your life, here is His invitation:

An Invitation: If you haven’t accepted God’s free gift of forgiveness yet, but you would like to experience the New Life He promises, simply pray this prayer:  “Jesus Christ, I choose to believe you are the Son of God and God’s only sacrifice for the forgiveness of my sins. I admit it, I’m a sinner, please forgive my sins, and I ask you to come into my life, I want to be born again. Save me Jesus.  I don't understand it, but please save me Jesus.  Please show me how real you are! Also baptize me with your Holy Spirit; I want everything you have for me. Thank you for accepting me.”

If you’re a skeptic you can pray a prayer like this: “God, if  this is true about Jesus Christ and a new life, please help me understand so that I can accept your gift of eternal life that you purchased for me by the sacrifice of Your Son.”
