The Grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to All men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we Wait for the blessed hope -- the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good" -- Titus 2:11-14.

God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness" --
2 Timothy 2:19.

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A person reaps what he or she sows. The one who sows to please the sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life -- Galatians 6:7-8.

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy" -- 1 Peter 1:14-15.

What does "holy" mean?
Holy means "seperated."  It means choosing to be seperated from a lifestyle that is not pleasing to God.

How do we do live holy lives in this world?
It's a matter of choice.  It involves what you think about, and who controls your mind.

Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God, so don't live according to the sinful nature but according to the Holy Spirit.  How do we do that?

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds Set On (fixed on, captivated by) what that nature desires. But those who live in accordance with the Holy Spirit have their minds Set On (fixed on, captivated by) what the Holy Spirit desires -- Romans 8:5-8.

How do we know what the Holy Spirit desires?
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind -- Romans 12:2.  How do we do that?

The Word of God (the Bible) is Living and Active, it is not just words on the pages.  It is shaper than any surgeon's scalpul, it Penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, no surgeon can do that.  As the Word of God penetrates your heart, it will judge the thoughts and attitudes of your heart -- Hebrews 4:12.

Now you see that as you read the Bible, the Words you read will go deep into your very being and expose the sinful desires and cravings that control your life.  God's intention is to change the thougths and attitudes in your heart so that you can be the person He created you to be.  Your desires will change; that is, if you allow them to be changed by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We have an obligation, but it is not to the sinful nature to live according to it:
If we live according to the sinful nature, we will die; but if by the Holy Spirit we put to death the cravings of the sinful nature, we will live because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God -- Romans 8:12-14

Live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature -- Galatians 5:16

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious:
sexual immorality, impurity and excessiveness; idoltary and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you that those who live like this will not see the kingdom of God -- Galatians 5:19-21.

Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery (sensual indulgence - XXX stuff), not in dissension and jealousy. Rather cloth yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and DO NOT THINK ABOUT how to gratify the desires of the sinful  nature -- Romans 13:14

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self control.

Now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord -- Romans 6:22,23.

You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness -- Romans 6:18, but of course, it's your choice.  The benefit you reap leads to holiness which results in eternal life.

If we sin, what happens? Does that disqualify us from living a holy life?
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense -- Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.  He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world -- 1 John 2:1,2.

Matter of fact, if we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. What are we to do when we sin? -- 1 John 1:8-10
If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and He will not only forgive our sins, but He will also purify us from all unrighteouness.

The truth is: If we claim we have not sinned, we make God out to be a liar and His Word has no place in our lives.

We are never alone in our struggle to live a holy life:
Because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He Always Lives to Intercede for them -- Hebrews 7:25.

Therefore since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need -- Hebrews 4:14-16.

Mercy means we do not receive from God what we deserve!
Grace means we receive from God what we don't deserve: forgiveness, mercy, help!  -- Hebrews 4:16

An Invitation: If you haven’t accepted God’s free gift of eternal life, but you would like to, simply pray this prayer:
“Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God and the only way to God.  I admit that I’m a sinner, please forgive my sins and come into my life; I want to be born again.  Please show me how real you are. Also baptize me with your Holy Spirit. Thank you for accepting me.”

If you’re still a skeptic: “God, if this is true, please help me understand so that I can accept the gift of New Birth you purchased for me.”
