Gift of Tongues
A time of refreshing. On Wednesdays I drive to Costa Mesa at 5pm, prime time on the 405. Bumper to bumper traffic for over an hour.  Over the many years of driving on the Freeway I learned that I have to control my thoughts when in heavy traffic, so I enjoy a time of refreshing praying in tongues. Thank God for that wonderful gift.

Instead of getting distracted, praying in tongues clears the spiritual airwaves making it possible to hear God speaking to my heart. Jesus Christ paid a high price for me to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and to speak in my heavenly language. So for an hour and twenty minutes I enjoy praying in tongues, and I arrive on campus refreshed and strengthened in faith.

It is not biblical to deny the baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Because of His willing obedience to be the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, His Father gave Jesus Christ the right to pour out the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. That is the day the Church began, and it began in the miraculous power of the Spirit. The Bible says:
"Exalted to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father
the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see
                and hear" -- Acts 2:33

What did they see and hear?
"ALL of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in
other tongues as the Spirit enabled them" -- Acts 2:4

So what is tongues and what is it for?
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not
know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes
for us with groans that words cannot express. And He who searches
our HEARTS knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit
intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will" -- Romans
              8:26-27.

I'm not going to expound on that statement, there is no need to. If you have an open heart and truly want to understand more of what Jesus Christ purchased for you by His atoning sacrifice you will reflect on that statement in Romans 8:26-27, and ask Jesus to explain it to you. He will! He wants you to understand the gift He received from His Father, the gift He poured out for those who are willing to receive.

Don't ask other people what they think it means, all you'll get is their opinions of what it is saying. And a lot of people, due to their chosen ignorance, will tell you that it does mean what it says.

Ask Jesus to explain it to you and He will! Understanding will enter your heart, not your head. Some people are totally mental in their understanding, that is detrimental to your spiritual health. Christian,
"we have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God,
that we may understand what God has freely given us" -- 1 Corinthians 2:12

Argue against tongues if you want but you're only cheating yourself, and hopefully you're not spouting off what you believe to others and robbing them of this blessing given by Jesus Christ Himself. A lot of pastors do that, and I pray, "Jesus set those captives free to receive the full gospel message, in your name I ask."

An Invitation: If you haven’t accepted God’s free gift of forgiveness yet, but you would like to experience the New Life He promises, simply pray this prayer: “Jesus Christ, I choose to believe you are the Son of God and God’s only sacrifice for the forgiveness of my sins. I admit it, I’m a sinner, please forgive my sins, and I ask you to come into my life, I want to be born again. Save me Jesus. I don't understand it, but please save me Jesus. Please show me how real you are! Also baptize me with your Holy Spirit; I want everything you have for me. Thank you for accepting me.”

If you’re a skeptic you can pray a prayer like this: “God, if this is true about Jesus Christ and a new life, please help me understand so that I can accept your gift of eternal life that you purchased for me by the sacrifice of Your Son.”
