What makes a person an adulterer/adulteress?

- They don't keep the marriage bed pure: "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer/adulteress and all the sexually immoral" -- Hebrews 13:4

- Their minds are controlled by the sinful nature:  "Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death (the wages of sin is death - 6:23), but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God " -- Romans 8:5-8

The progression of sin: Because they allow their minds to be controlled by the sinful nature their sinful thoughts turn into sinful desires and those sinful desires give birth to sin. And when sin is full-grown it gives birth to death (the wages of adultery is death (Romans 6:23). In other words, what they think about they will do -- they will defile the marriage bed.

"When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when:

            - by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed

            - next: after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin

            - next: sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death "-- James 1:13-15

What will happen to him/her?

"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. The person reaps what he/she sows.

            - the one who sows (does those things, thinks those things) to please his/her sinful nature' from that nature will reap destruction

            - in contrast -- the one who sows to please the Spirit (who's mind is controlled by the Holy Spirit), from the Spirit will reap eternal life -- Galatians 6:7-8

How does a person avoid becoming an adulterer/adulteress?

- Guard your thoughts: Have you mind controlled by the Holy Spirit -- Romans 8:5

- Guard your desires: "do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature"Romans 13:13

- Keep in mind, when Gods word tells us to do something then it is doable. The Holy Spirit is our helper Christian. By the Spirit you can put to death desires of the sinful nature Romans 8:13-14.

If you allow the Holy Spirit control your thoughts you will your desires will be under control.

How do you allow the Holy Spirit to control your thoughts? Spend time reading the Word of God, He is the author of Scripture. And pray in the Spirit.
